HEADS UP! 911 FEE CHANGE.
Quebec: effective January 1st, 2025, the 9-1-1 service fee will increase from 52¢ to 54¢ per month.
Northwest Territories: effective January 1st, 2025, the 9-1-1 service fee will increase from $1.70 to $3.00 per month.
HEADS UP! A NEW AREA CODE 879 WILL BE INTRODUCED IN THE 709 REGION.
Virgin Plus Member: On February 17, 2024, a new area code 879 will be introduced in the 709 region. Your local dialing rates will remain the same, existing phone numbers and calling areas will not change, and numbers like 9-1-1 can still be dialed using 3 digits.
Why new area codes are needed?
The introduction of new area codes is the result of decisions by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in response to the increased demand for communications services. Starting on May 31, 2023, 10 digit dialing for local numbers (the area code, plus the phone number) will be introduced in the 807 region. Your local dialing rates will remain the same, existing phone numbers and calling areas will not change and 3-digit numbers like 9-1-1 can still be dialed using 3 digits.
